The Caroline Chisholm Society’s Every Child Program is designed to provide prevention and early intervention pathways from self referrals, community networks, and maternal and child health nurses into pregnancy and early parenting evidence informed programs as well as material aid resources.
We fervently believe that no child should go without the basics in clothing and essentials. Nor should their families be left to fend for themselves when they are experiencing a range of issues that impact their capacity in the care and wellbeing of their children.
Through the generous support of our community, the Society recycles equipment and clothing and provides other mother and baby essentials regularly donated by members of the community from across Victoria.
And in some cases, if we don’t have what a mum and her children need, the call goes out and our village of supporters respond!
From the first point of contact for a family in responding to their material aid needs, trained staff offer brief intervention and single session consults to identify and work with the family, including confidence in parenting capabilities, safety and wellbeing issues including the impact of family violence, homelessness and exploitation, social isolation, limited access to early childhood programs for young children; as well as little to no access into community and mental health services for women. Our specialisation also means at risk and vulnerable women from CALD backgrounds impacted by their experience of immigration, refugee and visa issues also have a safe place to access in supporting them and their families.
The Society has provided material aid programs for over 50 years, with one of the first programs of its kind established and continuing to be offered across the western suburbs of Melbourne and Shepperton. We provide material aid such as baby clothes, nappies, shoes, blankets and mum packs for soon-to-be or new mums.
