Media, the news and our approach to public commentary

Caroline Chisholm Society is an engaged member of our community. We work in Moonee Valley, Caroline Springs and Shepparton, and represent our local communities in state-wide forums. We are particularly concerned about issues facing expectant and new mothers and their families, including pregnancy, early parenting, childcare and kindergarten, social isolation, perinatal mental health, poverty, homelessness and family violence.

Today we share with you the announcement of the appoint of Jennifer Weber PhD as interim CEO for the Caroline Chisholm Society.

Prior to joining the CCS team in 2017, Jennifer had spent several years in Canada with her family, undertaking senior leadership roles with the government of Alberta including oversight on key public policy initiatives in the fields of early childhood, education, disabilities and human services.

Jennifer's experience extends over 30 years in government, community and university leadership roles, and brings with her a keen sense of the significance of the Society's mission, vision and values.

In more recent times she has led a number of international initiatives working with hospitals, NGOs, government and community agencies across Canada, the UK, USA, and NZ to implement baby boxes into programs and service delivery based on the FInland Baby Box experience to improve maternal and child health and wellbeing outcomes.

Please joins us in welcoming Jennifer into this interim role and feel free to contact her as way of introduction including ideas for our work in going forward.

The launch of the report ‘A Crisis in Crisis' reveals an appalling state of crisis accommodation in Melbourne’ #motelsandmisery. It makes for uneasy reading. Millions of dollars are being spent each year putting women and children into accommodation that is unsuitable and downright unsafe because agencies simply have no other alternatives. Our government-funded crisis beds are full, and there is not affordable housing for people to exit into. Fixing this problem will take a co-ordinated approach between state and federal governments to. We need more funding for better crisis accommodation in the short term, and an investment in more affordable housing in the long-term.
